Today makes six months of my career transition (unemployed) I googled “hire me someone” and found your previous blog. That was 2008 and this is 2010 and those words your wrote expresses how I feel today. I am a boomer with a Y spirit and have soooo much to offer. I have embraced social media for marketing and would love to get my foot in the door but don’t have the “technical” background. I have a FB, Twitter, LinkedIn,FourSquare account and a blog. The sad news is I have only a hand full of peers in my entire peer group that I can connect with through this medium. So, I have joined Fan Pages of things I am interested in. So, as I ramble you can see I have more time then money. It appears you have landed and hugs to you.
Hi Teresa,
Hang in there! It can be so depressing when you know what you can offer but just can’t find the right opportunity. I found that my interviewing skills went down the dumpster after a month or two simply because I had lost all my confidence! Confidence is so key. Whatever you do – participate in the conversations! Don’t just follow people or companies you are intersted in on Facebook and Twitter – talk to them! Add value and position yourself well, and you will be recognized.
(that and check Craigslist – although it can seem like your resumes go into black holes, I actually found many great jobs that way!)
Keep up the good work! Keep that confidence and network, network, network!!
Cheers,
Alyssa
